Safety and Statutory Regulations

At the Holistic Birthing Centre our number one concern is the safety
and well being of you and your baby.

Midwives in the UK undergo the most rigorous and thorough training in the
world. Once qualified midwives are accountable for their practice and
subjected to the most in depth system of practice scrutiny.

Each midwife has regular supervisory input which ensures that skills are
updated, study days are attended and that records are kept appropriately.
The assigned Supervisor of Midwives (SoM) also makes checks on
equipment, drugs, ongoing education, documentation and our premises.
The Holistic Birthing Centre is also subject to spot checks from the SoM to
ensure that our service maintains a standard of excellence.

We will be registered with the Healthcare Commission; this means regular
inspection for compliance to health and safety, hygiene, fire and infection
control regulations.

All of these safeguards are essential as they protect the interests of every
woman we care for and every midwife who is employed at the centre.

All independent midwives in the UK are, at the present time, unable to
obtain professional indemnity insurance. We continue to work towards
getting this provision however from our point of view our very high
standards of care and the high level of inspection is reassuring to both us
and our clients.
